Gaayip-Yagila Primary School encompasses a School–Wide Positive Behaviour Approach to health and wellbeing, incorporating Restorative Practices and trauma informed models. At Gaayip-Yagila Primary School all students participate in a unit of ‘health’ as part of the Inquiry model. Students also participate in daily and weekly wellbeing activities directly related to the school’s expectations – Excellence, Collaboration, Respect and Kindness. Students will be supported to understand the expectations through explicit modelling, teaching and a consistent language approach.
Our Health and Wellbeing model acknowledges the connection between wellbeing and academic achievement. Throughout Foundation to Year 2, the focus links to outcomes in personal development. In Years 3 - 6, the focus is on building the skills students need to lead a fulfilling, balanced and productive life, at school and beyond. Learning tasks consist of engaging, hands on activities, collaborative team work and reflection time which are all important aspects of student learning.
All year levels will participate in ‘Connect time’ which is a specific event in every school day where students can reflect and connect with their teachers and peers. This time builds relationships and allow students to engage in practices that support their wellbeing.
